It specifically requires employees at "quick service" restaurants, which also include fast food and food trucks, to adhere to the dress code. The ordinances require the workers to wear a minimum of tank tops and shorts. There is nothing unhealthy, obscene, or contrary to the public good in the barista’s garments." "Millions of women fought for our rights and right to vote, and it’s my right to wear what I want. “I choose my own clothing at work, and for me, the message I send is freedom," said plaintiff Liberty Ziska. The plaintiffs also make the case that the SeaGals attire - which consists of very short shorts, pushup bras, and bare midriffs - would be illegal under the Everett ordinances, yet they perform in front of 60,000-plus people every game day and at numerous charity events. In addition, the ordinances force baristas to undergo a "humilating and intrusive examination" by police so that the officer "can calculate whether her clothing choice exposes more than the law allows," the lawsuit says "The city’s legislative record does not support that these conditions exist as a result of the stands - much less that a dress code ordinance will meet these goals," the baristas said in a statement. The lawsuit also claims that the city of Everett has no evidence that bikini barista stands contribute to increased crime, the delinquency of minors, decreased property values or any of the other negative impacts claimed by the City Council. The plaintiffs in the lawsuit include seven baristas and an owner of a chain of bikini coffee stands, who argue that the new ordinances effectively abolish all bikini barista stands in Everett, putting women out of work or at the very least reducing their income from tips. The City Council should not tell me what I can and cannot wear when I go to work - it’s a violation of my First Amendment rights."Īccording to the lawsuit, the city of Everett violated the baristas' right to equal protection, discriminated against women, is a violation of protected freedom of speech and did not provide due process.Īnother plaintiff, Leah Humphrey, said, "These ordinances set back women’s rights by 50 years." One of the baristas involved in the lawsuit, Natalie Bjerk, added, "This is about women’s rights. ![]() "The city (of Everett) knows only women work as bikini baristas, and intentionally targeted women through the ordinances," Derek Newman, attorney for the baristas, said in a prepared statement. Here are some possible clues: Signs that you might need to work on your transitions In providing the reader with these important cues, transitions help readers understand the logic of how your ideas fit together. They are words with particular meanings that tell the reader to think and react in a particular way to your ideas. ![]() Transitions are not just verbal decorations that embellish your paper by making it sound or read better. Transitions signal relationships between ideas-relationships such as: “Another example coming up-stay alert!” or “Here’s an exception to my previous statement” or “Although this idea appears to be true, here’s the real story.” Basically, transitions provide the reader with directions for how to piece together your ideas into a logically coherent argument. ![]() Whether single words, quick phrases, or full sentences, they function as signs that tell readers how to think about, organize, and react to old and new ideas as they read through what you have written. Personally, I have a tiny soap shelf in the corner of my shower that I stand the clock on with it's kickstand these days, which works fine for me. Also, I think it's removable, so you might be able to replace it with a better one if you want. I have had the clock fall off mirrors and shower walls multiple times since the very beginning, but it does help a little if you make sure all surfaces are very clean from dust or soap first, and then wet the suction cup rim down just a bit before pressing it into the wall. This isn't the end of the world, since the timer will stop on its own eventually, even if the cancel button is temporarily unresponsive. The front buttons are finnicky now, though, so sometimes it won't register your touch if you are trying to turn the timer on or off. The timer function, display, and waterproofing work just as well as ever. This can of course be easily fixed by wiping it down every once in a while. The display was never bright (no backlighting, definitely not meant for unlit night conditions), but if you are going to use it in the bathroom, it might get soap scum on it over time and make it even less legible in glare conditions, or when viewed from an angle. Still works well enough and I still use it after three years. Here's my findings on how it holds up over time: The waterproofing works well, the interface is simple and convenient, the alarm is nice and LOUD (but will turn itself off after a minute or two if you forget to turn it off and find yourself on the other side of the house when it rings), and the design is super cute and doesn't take up a ton of space for having such a big, clear display. If you have ADHD or time management problems in general, I would highly recommend something like this. This was exactly the kind of thing I'd been dreaming of, and I can't remember the last time I was so stoked over a birthday gift. So, what does BlackMoon do better than its competition? Blackmoon supports all of these features well, but so do most of the other top ftp servers we looked at. It makes sense for modern servers to keep up the pace with their client counterparts.Ĭomparatively new features like SSL encryption and MODE Z on-the-fly compression have made their way into the best server software, along with the usual standbys like password encryption, virtual filesystems, and event handling/scripting. Windows FTP clients have come a long way from their command-line unix roots, with most tedious commands now issued transparently. Our review/award is focused on personal Microsoft Windows based FTP servers for fairly lightweight use (not more than a couple hundred users), rather than enterprise-class FTP servers. It's important to note that serious FTP servers for companies and big websites are usually commandline tools running under unix/linux. For example, while writing this review we exchanged screenshot archives using an ftp server, rather than using clumsy email attachments. However they can also be useful for sharing files between small groups of people. FTP servers are typically run by groups or organizations that need to provide a way for their clients to get files. Why would you need an FTP server? Well the truth is, most people don't need one. FTP is like your web browser, but specialized for transferring files instead of web pages. ![]() An FTP Server runs on a computer and allows other users ("clients") to connect to it and browse through directory trees and files, just like you would using Windows Explorer. ![]() ![]() But when I started testing Topaz Photo AI my jaw literally dropped to the floor, and for the first time, I was literally wondering how the heck did they do this…. It’s hard to really describe, but a lot of plugins work great on razor-sharp images, or images where there is a little bit of noise. They always deliver awesome plug-ins or standalone solutions that really add something to my workflow. Well, I would have said, “absolutely” a few weeks ago, but not anymore. Now I can’t even remember how many images I threw out that were just not “usable” at that time… But what if I told you that those cherished memories from our loved ones can be saved? That those concert images can be stunning and noiseless? And that time you missed focus is not a real problem anymore… would you label me crazy? or tell me “yeah, well we can sharpen it a bit, and use some filters, but it’s not sharp so it can never be as good as shot right at the moment we took it” So sometimes images are a little bit soft or have some tremendous noise because there wasn’t enough light to capture a razor-sharp clean image. Photography for me is freezing unique moments in time that will never come back again.īut Photography sometimes also means we have to capture those moments in situations that are far from perfect. Today I can tell you I had the same sort of experience, and probably even more important. Yes, the first time I saw Content Aware Fill I had that kind of moment, and that was way way before it was officially released and became much better. But nothing where I really had to pick my jaw up from the ground. And in all honestly most of the time it does do it work pretty well. Well, a lot of software nowadays uses the term AI. We have to find ways to incorporate AI into our workflows without losing the “soul” we all put into our work. I truly believe we are on the verge of some major breakthroughs. But do we really want to see the same kind of reviews without any personal input from a real human being? I don’t think so, but again it can help a lot with research and I’m excited to see how AI can be used for medical and scientific applications. The chatbots are also getting incredibly good and will probably be a real problem for education, but can help with writing articles and/or doing research. In a group of its own yes! But Instagram is almost overflown with awesome-looking fashion shots where I literally thought “What a great photographer” until I scroll down more and see that the rest of his/her work is often below average/ It’s something I struggle to recognize as art, but maybe that’s just me. Of course, it looks insanely good, but it’s not “real” like where you create a set, light the set, coach the model, and take the image. ![]() But I also have to add I don’t see this as “art”. Like probably most of you I am totally stunned by the quality of photorealistic images you can get from several AI image generators. Personally, I’m all for innovation but also have problems with some applications. Where a few years ago the term AI (Artificial Intelligence) was just something that you talked about in connection to some robot vacuums that were actually pretty dumb today the story is completely different and in all fairness, it’s an exciting but also frightening time. It seems the world is going really fast nowadays. ![]() This is especially important when creating branding materials, such as logos, business cards, and websites. By selecting colours based on their relationships on the wheel, designers can ensure their projects have a cohesive and professional appearance. The colour wheel is a vital resource for graphic designers, allowing them to create visually appealing designs with harmonious colour schemes. Now that we have a better understanding of the colour wheel, let's explore some practical applications and ways to use this essential design tool in your creative projects. Practical Applications of the Colour Wheel ![]() An example of a split complementary scheme is red, blue-green, and yellow-green. This arrangement offers a similar level of contrast to a complementary colour scheme but with a greater variety of colours. Split Complementary ColoursĪ split complementary colour scheme involves selecting a base colour and the two colours adjacent to its complement. An example of a triadic colour scheme is the combination of red, blue, and yellow. This colour scheme offers a balance of contrast and harmony, making it a versatile choice for designers. Triadic colours are evenly spaced around the colour wheel, forming an equilateral triangle. Examples of analogous colour schemes include blue-green, blue, and blue-purple or red, red-orange, and orange. These colours often share a common hue and create a harmonious, soothing effect when used together. Analogous ColoursĪnalogous colours are adjacent to each other on the colour wheel. Examples of complementary colour pairs include blue and orange, red and green, and yellow and purple. When used together, these colours create a striking contrast, making them a popular choice for creating visual interest. Some of the most common colour relationships include: Complementary ColoursĬomplementary colours are positioned directly opposite each other on the colour wheel. By understanding these relationships, designers and artists can create visually appealing and harmonious colour schemes. One of the primary benefits of the colour wheel is its ability to demonstrate the relationships between colours. Spin the wheel (by clicking anywhere on it) to return one of these colours at random. You can see all of the above colours on the wheel of colours above. There are six tertiary colours: red-orange (vermilion), red-purple (magenta), blue-purple (violet), blue-green (teal), yellow-green (chartreuse) and yellow-orange (amber). Tertiary colours are created by mixing equal parts of a primary colour and an adjacent secondary colour. These include green (a mix of blue and yellow), orange (a mix of red and yellow), and purple (a mix of blue and red). Secondary colours are formed by mixing equal parts of two primary colours. Every other colour on the wheel can be formed through the combination of primary colours in varying proportions. These colours are considered the base colours, as they cannot be created by mixing other colours. The primary colours are red, blue, and yellow. Let's take a closer look at each group and their respective colours. The modern colour wheel consists of three primary colour groups: primary, secondary, and tertiary. This led to the creation of the first colour wheel, a tool that has been adapted and refined throughout history. After observing the dispersion of white light into a spectrum of colours through a prism, he arranged these colours in a circle to demonstrate the relationships between them. It was Sir Isaac Newton, however, who first constructed a colour wheel in 1666. His ideas laid the groundwork for the development of colour theory. The Greek philosopher Aristotle was among the first to explore the relationships between colours, theorising that they were created through the mixture of light and dark. The concept of a wheel of colours dates back to antiquity. Let's delve into the history and structure of the wheel of colours as well as discuss practical applications and ways to harness its potential in your creative projects. It serves as a visual representation of the relationship between primary, secondary, and tertiary colours, making it an invaluable resource for artists, designers, and anyone who works with colours. The wheel of colours, also known as the colour wheel picker, is a fundamental tool in the world of design and visual arts. Click the Wheel of Colours to spin it and see which one you land on! The wheel is also fully editable so that it may be tailored to your own needs. ![]() What happens if you use permanent hair dye without developer?ĭo you need developer for hair dye?
